I've been making an Amazon wishlist per the request of some good friends and I have been surprised at the number of sci-fi books that I keep adding. My dad introduced me to science fiction when I was fairly young. I grew up in a pseudo-trekkie household where Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke and Gene Roddenberry were people I thought my parents knew personally. So it shouldn't surprise me that I still gravitate toward sci-fi as my comfort reading, but it does. It is not that it is my only reading interest, but it is the only one I know how to search for successfully on Amazon. Unfortunately, so much of the sci-fi written today is sordid, sexually bizarre, and shallow. I keep coming back to the classics and I realized, as I was making my wish-list, how few of the classics I own. I have read them, reread them, but always borrowed them from my parents or the library. I need to own them so I can introduce my children to them someday. Guess I better start a special savings account for my new book collection. This could get expensive! Then again, maybe I will just send this wishlist out to all my family members. Hmmmm...maybe I'll have a bookish Christmas this year!
