This morning was parent orientation for Mari's preschool. Brad came with Mari and me, and we actually found a babysitter to stay with the other two girls. Will wonders never cease! They did really well with Jo, the babysitter, but she is unfortunately not a permanent thing. She is moving very soon. Arg.

I'm really excited for Mari now. I wish *I* was going to preschool! I think we hit the jackpot with this place. It is exactly what I had hoped for. It is play based and child led. There are no group learning projects or anything like that. The kids pretty much do whatever they want in a highly structured and organized room. The teachers don't even refer to themselves as teachers, but as counselors. There are lots of natural materials in the room, especially wood (blocks, manipulatives, doll houses and dolls). There is a huge lego type center, a giant art area where they have free reign and everything is always open, so they can work on whatever they want, water play areas indoors and out, puppet theatre, a sort of gardening area, and lots of other things I can't even remember. They also have a media room right off the main room that is open all the time with computers and a preschool library (a large one for such a small preschool) and listening centers. It is all so cool! I don't know why they call this parent orientation because it was as much for the kids as it was the parents. The kids had free reign in the room while they talked to adults about the schedules and activities and stuff. At one point Mari got her super serious expression and came over from where she had been checking out the house play area to lean on my leg. I asked her if something was wrong and she said "No, I'm fine. I'm just taking it all in." Yes, that is exactly what she said. It was so cute! I think her favorite thing was the classroom pet, a beautiful and very friendly rabbit. She was infatuated at first sight. I really hope this turns out to be a great thing for her.

After we got home and Brad went back to work, I took the girls out for lunch and we did some shopping. I bought myself three skirts at a Dilliards sale. Nice skirts, two for of them were $15 and one was $12. I love those Dilliards end of season sales. Especially when the "season" doesn't really end for at least another two months and even after that all I have to do is throw on a sweater and possibly socks or tights and I'm set for the coldest winter day here. I was really hoping to find a couple of really simple dresses, but skirts are probably even more practical. I feel the need to be more feminine lately. Less frumpy. Less capris and t-shirts, which is all I've worn for two years it feels like. Capris in summer, jeans in winter. Gotta break out of that mold.
