We made it to and through the Holy Unction service tonight. It was extremely important to me that we make it to that this year, and that Luci especially be there and be annointed. I know we all need it desperately, but for some reason...it was Luci my heart was praying for throughout the service. It was Luci (when I wasn't thinking about myself, of course) that came into my head during the prayers. Luci did fairly well for her, and Holy Unction isn't a short service. It took close to two hours. We did have to leave at one point because she had to go to the bathroom and it took me awhile to get her back inside. I was surprised that it wasn't more packed in the church. This service seems so somehow "essential" to me...I don't really know why...and they didn't have a service earlier in the day. Anyway...all three girls did very well getting through the long service and Zoe was thrilled with her annointing. She walked back down the aisle holding her hands out in front of her with her beautiful, secret smile on her face. A woman waiting in the back saw her and bent to whisper to her as Zoe passed "Did you get blessed?" Zoe's smile looked like it would crack her face and her eyes were just shining as she whispered back "Yes!" She continued holding her hands out in front of her as if they were something fragile and precious, until she tripped and fell on the sidewalk outside...and skinned her knee pretty good. Poor baby!

I was feeling really fed up earlier today and last night...feeling like Holy Week was wearing a little thin, feeling like I was angry and tired and disgruntled and not getting much out of it, not that that is the point, but it was feeling sort of...well..pointless. But tonight fixed that. I just hope I can hold onto this "hope" for the next three days.
