We got our Christmas tree. Brad is outside cleaning it up. It will go up this afternoon. Oh, he just brought it in (he didn't want my help), so now I can smell it. Mmmmmm! Our St. Nicholas Square village went up yesterday. We had a place to put up the whole village this year. That has never happened before because we have a ridiculous number of houses and buildings. Brad's grandmother has been buying this stuff for him and his brothers for years and she really got into it after we got married, adding two or three house a year. We set it up in the library where the big new coffee table and bookshelves made a great place to put it. The library is where the Christmas tree is going too, so that room has been re-christened "The Christmas Room" by the girls. The village is getting a beating though, as the girls cannot leave it alone and play with the figures and pieces like a dollhouse. The biggest hit in the village is the carousel that Brad's grandma bought us last year. It is really adorable and plays a whole repertoire of Christmas songs in a decent music box sound.

Decorating for Chrismas around our house is An Event. When Brad and I were engaged (and my sister was too), one of my best friends and her mom got to together and through us both a "Christmas" shower right after Christmas (taking advantage of the after Christmas sales) the year before we got married. It was an incredible idea. People got us really neat stuff and I was ready to decorate an entire house for Christmas before we even tied the knot. After 10 more years of collecting things (my mom and Brad's mom both LOVE to buy Christmas decor) we could be featured in a magazine when I actually put everything up. When we moved here this summer we had 12 LARGE boxes of just Christmas decor. I kid you not. I haven't actually put everything up in a couple of years, it was just too much with three little people running around. But somehow the girls ages, my attitude, and this house that invites decorating have combined to make it somehow necessary to go all out for Christmas. We are getting it done early and quickly so we can enjoy it for a several weeks before we go "home" for Christmas.

Edited: Small change in plans for the evening. The movies were sold out and, luckily, Over the Hedge arrived from Netflix, so we will have family movie night at home. Must go buy popcorn now.
