Good visits and more homeschooling...
Feb. 25th, 2007 03:15 pmFirst things first!
Yesterday I met
moobabe, her husband, and their daughter! It was really wonderful! I really hope we can get together again. They are a little over two hours from us, so it won't happen often, but I truly enjoyed having them here at our house and the girls really enjoyed playing with their four year old daughter. Thank you, again, for making the drive you guys!!
I cannot believe how much snow we got today! At least six inches out there. And we actually went to church, which ended up being a bit dangerous. Virginia drivers DO NOT know how to drive in snow. It was wonderful, heavy, wet snow. Perfect for snowmen. So we have several in the front yard now. I hope the sprinkling of rain we are now getting doesn't wash it all competely away. I'd like a pretty snow like this to stick around for a few days.
I'm seriously considering starting a homeschool blog, but I'm afraid I'd end up only writing in it and neglect LJ, which I really love. I would really like any suggestions people have for homeschooling message boards or groups, especially with a classical approach. I have so many questions and I just can't seem to get them answered anywhere. I hate the WTM boards because I cannot figure them out. I don't understand how to search and when I do I have to read through pages of stuff to find what I want. Maybe I'm just not understanding how they work but there are no subject divisions and I find them really frustrating and overwhelming. Every other message board I find is totally dead.
altarflame, didn't you say something about one on ivillage?
My current dilemma is how to teach my kids to write. Do I teach cursive or manuscript first? They are all currently learing manuscript, from a somewhat HWTs approach. I keep reading articles about cursive first being better and the Spell to Write and Read author really recommends it. There is a cursive first program that fits right into SWR and I'm just wondering if we should go that route. I'm so confused. I finally got my history/literature plan straight and this spelling/reading/grammar/writing thing is just throwing me for a loop. I would really like some opininons on it but no one seems to have one. ARG!
