May. 13th, 2007 03:53 pmHappy Mother's Day to all the moms on my list. And all the people on my list with moms. And all the people on my list who want to be a mom. And all the people on my list who have lost their moms.
Here is a pic of me with my girls on Mother's Day. ( Read more... )
I need to continue my update on my girlies. I guess it is Zoe's turn.
I think five and half must be kind of a tough age for a kid. I think it was tough for Mari a year ago, but she is pretty quiet about that sort of thing. Zoe doesn't keep her feelings to herself...at least not with me. She talks about them, muses about them, screams about them. And she has some massively big feelings these days. She thinks about things very deeply and worries about them. We have lots and lots of conversations that center around why people do things. Why I laughed when she sang a song for me, why that boy at school stuck his tongue out at her, why a kid in her gymnastics class said she was "crazy", etc. She gets her feelings hurt easily all of a sudden and is very concerned for how others are feeling. I have a budding psycholigist on my hands, I think.
She is currently very into the life cycle of caterpillers. We have several eastern tent caterpillers the girls caught that spun cocoons in the bug habitat. These are probably some of the most eagerly anticipated moths that ever emerged from cocoons. Zoe checks on them multiple times a day. She is still totally a nature girl and spends almost every minute of outside time digging in the dirt "dicovering" things, collecting leaves, sticks, and rocks, and asking millions of questions. I bought the Handbook of Nature Study, a classic Charlotte Mason resource, and it has proved invaluable a number of times already. As has the internet. Yay for the internet when you have insatiably curious children like Zoe!
Yesterday, Zoe got her ears pierced. She has been BEGGING for this for months. I just kept putting her off because she gets so uptight about pain. I kept telling her that it hurts. It really does hurt. Not just pinch, it HURTS. She was not dissuaded. Finally, we just did it. She was so excited and nervous she was shaking, but she did not hesitate. Of course, she wailed like a banshee when they did it. She stopped within seconds and was very, very pleased with the results, checking herself in the mirror every half hour at least ever since to make sure they are still there. But it was a little hard on me. Mari was a little mad at me last summer when she got her ears pierced because I didn't tell her how much it would hurt. I downplayed it a bit, while still trying to be honest. I tried to make sure Zoe knew, absolutely that it would hurt. I think it still surprised her, but that child is so into bling nothing was going to stop her from wearing "crystals" in her ears as soon as possible. Funny girl. I suppose being raised by an earring addict helped a bit. Mommy's big crystally chandelier earrings are awfully attractive to budding princesses.
Zoe is doing remarkably well in her gymnastics class. I still cannot believe how much she has improved since we started at this gym. I think it has a lot to do with her teacher. I give that coach a lot of credit for giving Zoe a lot more confindence and helping her over some of her fears. She is so proud of each new skill. The most recent ones are finally doing a seat drop successfully, a cartwheel, and several new jumping skills involving spring boards that kind of impress me. The gym will be doing an end of the session exhibition in a few weeks and Zoe and Luci will both be getting a trophy. This has been on Zoe's dream list for probably six months. I was sooooo glad when they told us every child would receive a trophy for participating in the exhibition (and paying the entrance fee). Zoe's been asking when she would get a trophy for a long, long time. Bling, bling.
Bling and bugs and dirty fingernails. These are my Zoe.
I don't think I could survive without Zoe kisses and Zoe hugs. They are just like...the best.
