Weirdness today...

We were outside this evening, hanging out in the front yard while the girls played in the sprinkler, and suddenly we heard this horribly loud crunching, banging sound. Our next door neighbor, who was inside at the time, said it shook his house. Seconds later we heard screaming and yelling coming from behind our house. Our house backs, at least partially, to a pretty busy road. The other part of the backyard backs to another backyard and house. The busy road has a speed limit of 25mph as it is a densely populated residential road. Anyway, the screaming and yelling continued for a minute or two and Brad and I decided something BAD was happening, so Brad and I ran back there to see if we could figure out what was going on. There are TONS of trees back there, so we couldn't see anything, but just as we got back there, the woman that lives in the house behind us came out yelling to a man who was going in her back door that her "daughter is still upstairs". We yelled to ask if they needed any help, she said no, it was under control. She has MS and was hard to understand and seemed a little hysterical. Then we started hearing emergency vehicle sirens. Brad decided to jump the fence and see if there really was something he could do. He came back a few minutes later to tell me what happened.

Apparently, a pickup truck going approximately 60mph according to eye witnesses, leaped right off the road, up the hill toward the house, broke through small trees and shrubs and landed INSIDE our neighbors' house! Seriously, that trucks' entire cab had plunged INSIDE their house, almost right through the front door!

The last word I heard was that no one was hurt, but that the driver, who was obviously somehow seriously impaired, was claiming he had a passenger and no one could find the passenger. There are still tons of emergency vehicle lights and spotlights out there right now, nearly four hours later. I don't know what is going on though.

That has to be one of the more bizarre sights I've ever seen. I couldn't reist walking around to see it. Don't worry, I stayed out of the way as there were about six fire trucks parked around and the whole yard and house was taped off. I couldn't see it very well through the the trees, but sure enough, there was a truck parked halfway inside the house. Unbelievable.

I really hope no one was hurt. I hope they figured out the "passenger" situation.

Lord, have mercy.
