A little meme I've seen around...
Apr. 6th, 2008 11:52 am1. My username is ______ because ______.
My username is mommydama because at the time I started this blog, being a mommy was the most relevant part of my life. It was what I wrote about, thought about, DID all day everyday. It still is...mostly. But sometimes I wish my username was something different. Something that says a little more about who I am now. I'm still a mommy though, so it is still very appropriate. And Dama is my first name.
2. My name is _____ because ______.
My name is Dama because my father had a friend when he was a kid by that name and he always loved it. We didn't believe him. We thought he was just remembering her name wrong. As a kid myself, I liked to tell people my name was DA for David (my dad) and MA for Margaret (my mom). I wanted a better explanation than the one my dad gave me. But one day, when I was in high school I went through a box of mementoes in my Grandma's house and found a piano recital program from when my dad was in third grade and sure enough, there she was. Dama Bennett. I wonder where SHE got the name. I had a guy from Morocco tell me once that my name was Moroccan and meant Forever. I like that. Not sure it is true, since I've never found any verification for it, but I like it.
3. My journal is titled ____ because ____.
My journal is titled Building a Refuge from a line in one of my favorite Indigo Girls' songs.
"Now I know a refuge never grows
from a chin in a hand in thoughtful pose,
Gotta tend the earth if you want a rose..."
That quote is my "life motto" and has been since high school.
Our little homeschool is called Three Roses academy because of that song as well as a picture Brad took of three roses on a the same stem that I fell in love with because it seemed to symbolize our girls somehow. A hybrid rose. Beautiful and new. It takes a lot of work to build a family...it takes a different kind of work to build a family like ours...
4. My friends page is called ____ because ____.
My friends page is called my friend's page? Because I ran out of creative names, I guess.
5. My default userpic is ____ because ____.
An icon of St. Anna and the child Theotokos (Virgin Mary). She is my patron saint and I took her name when I entered the Orthodox Church (that means when I partake in any Mystery of the church, like the Eucharist or Holy Unction, that is the name the priest says). I love St. Anna. She is amazing to me in her patience and endurance of sadness and depression (which I know she had to feel) and her sacrifice in giving up her daughter at such a young age to the Temple. I don't think I could have done it. But she did. Patience, self-sacrifice, and endurance....all things I constantly run out of in my life as an Army wife and homeschooling mom.
