My dad had surgery on his foot today. It went well, but was very stressful as the surgeons weren't being very optimistic about how well they would be able to repair his shattered heel. He was not awake yet last time I talked to my mom, but they did say the surgery went well. Time will tell. Lots of time. Poor Dad.

My minivan has to have a new transmission. $4300. Yep. We only have the one car right now. I'm borrowing my Grandma's car since my aunt is in town and can drive Grandma around. That is a good thing. But I don't know how long it will take them to fix it. I need to call the insurance company and see if we have rental coverage. We had tow coverage which I did not know we had. Another good thing.

I'm looking for the good things. I am.

Today has been a somewhat trying day though.

I'm going to list my birthday gifts to take my mind off of my worries. It was such a sweet birthday.

Milk chocolate truffles from Luci (she ALWAYS picks candy for EVERYONE, it is adorable)
Teal green shirt, gorgeous, from Zoe
A book, House of Daughers, from Maria (she liked the cover and the title apparently, I don't know anything about it other than that)
Money from mom and dad
IOU for lunch out with my grandma
Necklace and matching bracelet from my youngest sister and her kids (the kids picked it apparently, they have good taste. Her six year old son told me "I know how you like big jewelry!)
Two books, The Power of a Praying Parent and Feeding the Whole Family: Recipes for Babies, Young Children, and their Parents (Cooking the Whole Foods Way), from my other sister, her husband, and their kids
Shirt and Pants set from MIL

But the best part was the cards. The homemade ones from all the kids and the ones my kids picked out with MIL and all the cards from the grown ups, most of which were obviously carefully selected and said amazingly appropriate things. My favorite was the homemade card from my seven year old niece, Bennett. It said "Happy Birthday Ant Dama! Here are 35 wishes!" and was decorated with exploding wishes that looked like fireworks. Then she did an acrostic poem with the letters ANT DAMA. Don't know why, but it made me laugh and get all teary. Several cards did that, but I just loved my 35 wishes and my poem. Bennett put a LOT of time and effort into that. She is such a neat kid.
