I decided to post my schedule for the next school year. I like to do this so I can look back and see how things have changed or how we have progressed or grown. I don't set times for stuff anymore like I used to. I give the older two girls a list of what must be accomplished by them, and they do it, while I sit with Luci and work through her list with her. The other girls are close by so I can answer any questions, but they have complete freedom in what order they do things and where they do them. The stuff we do together, like history and science and things that must be taught or discussed happen after they have finished their "table work" (Singapore Math, Reading, and Grammar usually). This schedule is basically what we do already, with a little tweaking. What I have on the schedule can usually be done by noon or 1pm and then we have the afternoon for pursuing whatever they want to pursue. Could be working on a handicraft or art projects or jumping rope...whatever they want to do. There is a flow to our days that I often look forward to getting back to when we've been on vacation. It works. I have detailed schedules for history and science readings, and am working on at least a literature read aloud list. As for what they read to themselves, I'm also working on an individual reading level appropriate list, but will use it as suggestions for when they won't or can't choose their own books. For the most part, I don't care what they read, as long as they are reading.
