Oct. 18th, 2010 07:12 pmI just got home from a weekend trip to Hugo, OK. Teeny tiny town, but it often feels that it holds half my world. My paternal grandparents live there and have since before I was born. It is where family get togethers for that side of the family have happened for my entire life. This weekend we celebrated my grandmother's 90th birthday. It was lovely. And I wish that side of my family could get together more often.
My grandmother is an amazing lady. Her name is Lois. She has beautiful white hair and has for as long as I can remember. I've wished since I was a child that when I grow old I could have white hair like her. But I'm already taking after the other side of the family. Anyway, she is this unbelievably intelligent lady. She went to college at age 15. She has this amazing curiosity and vibrance. She is quiet and gentle and patient, but that still surface hides a brilliant and constantly moving mind. She knows more about computers than many people half her age. She is on Facebook. She reads my journal. More closely than anyone else in the world. She brought me a bag of mechanical pencils for my girls because she read in my journal that they like them. She remembers things...important things. And loves so hard. And never gives up. She is full of faith in God. She is THE Proverbs 31 woman. She has made and often sold handicrafts her entire adult life. Quilts of every kind, crocheting, sewing, beading, jewelry, and so much more. My father told a story of her making doll clothing and selling it to get the money for Christmas gifts one year.
There is so much I could say about her. I love her.
