Mari's tooth came out!!!!

I guess that means we are officially in middle childhood now, huh? Weird. I got all teary eyed looking at her snaggle-toothed grin. I'm glad it came out though. It was just barely hanging on all day and I was so afraid she would lose it in the night and swallow it. My mom found one of our old tooth fairy dolls for her. Well, it isn't really a doll, it was a perfume bottle from Avon. Mom bought my sisters and me each one when we were kids. She is some kind of hard blue plastic/ceramic stuff (I called her the Blue Fairy) with a glow-in-the-dark wand. The wand has a star on the end. And her other hand is held out in front of her with a small pouch-like purse hanging from it for the tooth to sit it. The pouch is exactly the size of a quarter...that dates it quite a bit, eh?

How much are teeth going for these days?

My mom and stepdad always gave me a dollar.

My cuban grandparents, because I was rarely at their house and they wanted to spoil me wrotten, would give me a twenty.

You'd better believe I was chewing on the other side if one came loose and it was within 3 months of that vacation, and yanking like crazy if one got loose the week we were leaving :P

Those dolls/bottles sound awesome :)

A dime.

Unless the toothfairy forgot, then it might be a quarter.

I also have a rule that when a kid loses a tooth that has a filling, they owe me money.

Funny, reminding them of that makes them run to the toothbrush.

(No, I haven't really collected, but I could have. Little Lady got another filling on Monday. [sigh])

my brother says the tooth fairy at HIS house leaves two dollars...with a note that says one dollar must be saved until all the teeth in the child's mouth are grown up teeth. the other dollar can be spent.

I remember being left a dollar, when I lost a tooth. I'm not really sure what the going rate is these days!

How cool! Wow. How grown up. Wow. :)

I'm thinking of getting either 2 dollar bills or the dollar coins, or whatever seems practical once we hit loose teeth. I think when I was a kid we got a 50 cent piece for the first tooth, and a quarter for each subsequent tooth.

I'm not looking forward to my kids losing teeth. It will make them seem so grown up. And the whole wiggling tooth thing kinda grosses me out. It's silly, cause I can handle blood and stuff OK, but teeth... ICK!

I always got 50 cents, I think. I really like the silver dollar idea because it's a special thing that they probably will only find under their pillow, rather than on the sidewalk or something.

First teeth are worth more in our house - maybe $2-$3 while the rest are worth .50 - 1.00. We also remind the kids that the tooth fairy brings me the tooth - my SIL is a dental assistant and bought me these wonderful banks with a place for each tooth and the date, so I keep them.

$2 is the going rate in our house. However, yesterday Sueanna lost her last tooth and the tooth-fairy got generous (he also didn't have any change) and left her a five-spot.
