My BIL, Kirk, sent us this tribute to their dog, Jake, today. I thought it was so sweet, I just had to share it. Brad added the picture caption with his typical military style. Can't ask for a better life than that people will say things like this about you when you are gone. Sometimes I think we could all learn a lot from dogs.

"Jake Johnson – Best Friend for 10 years
Jake Johnson, our family’s beloved dog, passed away yesterday after a long battle with liver cancer. When dad was out of town, he protected mom with his deep bark. Dane spent most of his life with Jake and Mandi; I was off to college but had an incredible bond with them both. Mom and Dad took such great care of him, and continue to nurture Mandi with her ongoing battle with diabetes. It is so sad to lose such a close friend; he truly was “man’s best friend.” Jake loved to lay around the house, behind the couch in the living room and under his favorite table. He loved the lake, but hated the car ride. He was always so happy to see people when they came home. I will forever miss his greeting when I walk in my parent’s house, but I know now that he is no longer suffering. Jake, we love you and know we will see you again some day.
May you Rest in Peace, buddy." --Kirk
The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
I know you’ll do what must be done,
But this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know it’s hard to see me suffer so
But when this time comes, please, let me go.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
We've been so close for many years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
I'll wrap our treasured memories in a blanket of my love
and keep them for you my very best friend until we meet above.
