My parents bought me a down comforter for Christmas, but I never got a duvet cover for it. Now, moving into a new home and redoing my life in major ways seems as good a time as any to find one. But I'm remembering why I never did it before. I'm impossible to please.

So I'm looking for something unique, kind of exotic, lush and luxurious, possibly Indian or Moroccan inspired, with deep, rich colors. Bohemian maybe? Something to go with my Klimt prints and make me feel like I've entered another world when I go in my room. I have some dark purple and sage green stuff that I'd like to keep (for curtains and pillows and such) so those colors need to be in it or blend with it. I've found a couple that I like...one by Natori that is not only apparently discontinued so impossible to find, but way out of my price range:

Here is another, from Crate and Barrel that I think I like, but not nearly as much:

So I need suggestions of where to look. I like patchworks too, if they are in velvets and silks and just generally lush and sensory.

Hopefully Arielle sees this, too....

You can't wash them...ever? They can be dry cleaned or something at least, right?

I guess I just don't live in the climate for a down comforter. The wikipedia page for "duvet" claimed that the duvet itself WAS the down comforter - wiki even has pictures of plain white down comforters captioned "this is a duvet"!

That's right. That is a duvet. So I need a duvet cover. Isn't that what I said? I'm confused.

Dry cleaning is probably the best option. I did wash mine once. Not a good idea. Won't do it again. I don't think I ruined it, it is still fluffy, but I did lose some feathers. Heh.

You send them to a down cleaning specialist who does something magical and charges you like forty bucks. Also you sun and air them regularly, if you don't live here, anyway.

Sun. Yeah, that.

I vaguely remember it.

I've dry cleaned mine once, but it really didn't do any good. I'm sure it made less germy, but it didn't look any better. This was after the apartment janitors threw it off the fire escape in the rain.
