Brad is headed over to Kelly USA this afternoon to help set up cots, get food organized, whatever. People are already arriving. I wish so much I could help, but that seems kind of pointless. What would I do with the kids? Another moment when I really wish we had some extended family handy. We've been talking about it and we are going to be offering our spare room, hopefully to a couple or a single mom with kids, if it is needed. I figure it may not be needed yet, but in a few weeks as these people recover from shock and want to start their lives over again, it might be needed. I don't know. I'm not sure where to offer though. Those who need it the most aren't going to be looking on craigslist and no organization is taking this kind of offer yet. Seems like the best way will be locally. Hopefully, Brad can feel out the situation and come back with some ideas. It feels so close now. Right in our backyard, there are refugees. In America. In Texas. It is crazy.

http://katrinahouseguest.com/ has several sites where you can post offers of housing; http://www.shareyourhome.org/ is another site that doesn't seem to be listed on that first one. It's really generous of you to offer, although I know that you feel like it's so minor in the face of what's needed. I feel the same way; we don't have the room to put somebody up, but I'm donating almost a dozen boxes of clothing and bedding items, and I'm going to go through the kids' toys and see if I can put together a few boxes of those. It's the kids caught up in this especially that get to me, especially because so many of them had so little even *before* this happened, and now they don't even have that.

My in-laws are doing this. They live in Houston and plan to take in a family in their home.
