Nothing particularly major has happened in the last week, we've just been so busy, I literally never had time to sit down and write. This is going to be long and picture heavy.
Brad's mother came in last Monday and left today. His dad came on Wednesday and left on Saturday. We celebrated a small family birthday party for Zoe on Tuesday night, Thursday morning was Brad's Change of Command ceremony (he was the outgoing commander), we had a big party with guests and all for Zoe on Friday night, and Brad's birthday was on Sunday. I'm going to try and go through the whole week with pictures too.
We picked Brad's mom up from the airport last Monday afternoon. The girls were so excited about her coming that I thought they were going to come out of their skins. Grandma Laura is a big hit around here. Not only is she wonderful with the girls, she is amazingly helpful. She and I are very, very different people, but we get along pretty well. Brad had to work kind of late that night, but he made it home in time to hang out with us a little while before bed. Tuesday I did some shopping while G.Laura watched the girls and that night we had a short little party for Zoe. Brad got home about 5pm and left again at 7:30 for a company run, but he was home long enough for us to sing to Zoe and eat her little cake (he got home after midnight, not sure exactly when as I was asleep).
Her cake was a quick, simple thing. She wanted pink cake and pink frosting. Quite a contrast with her party on Friday!

Wednesday, I can't even remember what we did all day, I just know we were busy. Brad left work to pick his dad up at the airport around 5pm, brought his dad home and ate dinner with us, and then left for work again. He got home about 11:30. I can't even imagine how he was functioning on Thursday morning for his change of command ceremony, but he was. Of course, I did not see him at all that morning, just briefly Wednesday night before he fell asleep. We all went to the ceremony and I actually got a picture of the girls looking all put together and pretty.

I just liked this one of Brad at the Change of Command ceremony for some reason.

Brad actually came home for the afternoon on Thursday. Joey came over that evening and watched the girls, so the adults all went out to eat at Papasitos. It was fun though I had a bit of a run in with a marguerita that was a little too much for me. I should have eaten something first. Ugh.
The girls thought Grandpa Terry's struggles to produce an appropriate Mexican accent for these books hysterical.
Friday was the big day. It was insane actually. I don't remember if I've mentioned it before, but Zoe is in love with Star Wars. She discovered that her daddy is a Star Wars nut and I think the whole thing started in order to have something in common with daddy. Eventually, she developed quite an obsession with Darth Vader. She's always had a thing for the bad guys, I don't know why. When I asked her months ago, why she liked Darth Vader when he was a bad guy, she said "But he isn't bad at the end!" A great segue to a long talk about the concepts of repentence and redemption. We've had so many theological discussions centering on the Star Wars movies, I've lost count. It has been amazing. Anyway, many weeks ago, when I first began mentioning her birthday and having a party and inviting people, she told me she wanted a Darth Vader party. I was actually kind of appalled. I didn't know I had such a prejudice, but a Darth Vader party for my four year old daughter just freaked me out. Finally, I realized that if I had a four year old boy who wanted a Darth Vader party, I wouldn't bat an eye. So it didn't really make a lot of sense for it to bother me so much for my daughter to want it. Zoe got her Darth Vadre party and it was a hit. Darth Vader himself even showed up and scared all the kids to death. But only for a moment. When they discovered it was Brad in that costume they all loved it. I will never, ever forget Zoe's face when she opened the front door and Darth Vader was standing there. She took off running, yellling "Shut the door!" I was afraid we had just caused a month of nightmares. I scooped her up and Darth Vader (Brad) said in his weird electronically altered voice "I thought you liked Darth Vader." To which she responded "Just in the movies!" So, Darth removed his helmet and she began giggling nervously and within minutes she was in love with the whole thing. She got a Darth Vader costume herself from my mother and several light sabers appeared. Everyone seemed to have a good time. Our house right now is perfect for a party like that. The kids just ran around the backyard and playroom and had a great time. I'm really glad we did it.

Luci could not wait to get this thing on!

I think this was Zoe's favorite birthday present. It was from her Grandma Laura. Zoe loves cars and trucks and had asked for this specific thing when we were in Target one day.

And here she is sporting her new costume! I can't wait until she wants to go out in it.

Saturday and Sunday were a little slower. We took the girls to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. They had life size dinosaurs all over the gardens. It was very cool. Zoe did get very upset though. She was under the impression that the dinosours would be real. I've told her before many, many times that the dinosours are all dead, but I think it just sunk in. She actually sat in my lap and cried for the death of the dinosaurs.
Sunday was Brad's birthday and we had a small celebration and a really yummy pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting. Now, I'm exhausted and need at least a weeks vacation to recover from all the festivities. The we get to start the Thanksgiving prep. I don't know if we will have company or not, but it sounds like Brad has some plans in the works. I think I better prepare myself to play hostess.
