May. 23rd, 2006 10:25 amI am determined to write a pleasant post today.
Tomorrow we are planning to go to a sprinkler park with Sarah and her two kids. I've never been to a sprinkler park, not really sure what to expect, but it sounds like a lot of fun. Sarah and I are also planning a "spa day" a few days before the ball. I'm going to get my eyebrows done, I think. I've never done that before. Sarah is trying to talk me into a pedicure, another first for me, but I'm not sure I can go through with that one. My feet are the one physical feature of mine I have never been able to talk myself into liking at all. I have my father's feet. Not pretty. And feet creep me out anyway. I can't stand the thought of someone else touching my feet and thinking about how ugly they are. Ugh. Anyway, the spa day thing seems like a lot of fun to me and it is a totally out of character thing to do for me too. I seem to be doing a lot of that lately.
Oh...a Luci funny. Okay, this needs some background info and may be a little TMI for some, so stop reading now if you are squeaminsh. My FIL is a waste water engineer. Well, he doesn't actually do much engineering anymore, he is a higher up executive type these days. But anyway, there are a lot of jokes in that family about waste matter. He explained his job to my girls by telling them that poop and pee they flush down the toilet comes to him and he works to clean the poop and pee out of the water so it can be used again. The girls found this funny and fascinating. But we have not talked about this in months, nor has Grandpa Terry been mentioned in the last few days. But yesterday, Luci was sitting on the potty, clutching a bright pink rock. I left the bathroom for a moment and when I came back to help her finish, discovered that she had dropped the small rock, she claimed on purpose, into the toilet. Considering what else was in the toilet, I was not about to stick my hand in there and fish it out, so I had to flush it. As I did I said "Why did you throw your rock in there? I'm sorry it is gone, I can't get it back." She watched the toilet water rush away and then looked up at me with a grin.
"Now it is going to Grandpa Terry!" I don't know why this struck me as the funniest thing I'd heard in ages, but I laughed until I cried. And called my MIL to tell her the story. She thinks they should try and find a hot pink rock and the next time G. Terry sees Luci he should give it to her and say he found it. I'm still laughing about this. Just to see what the girls are actually picturing about G. Terry's job, I asked Zoe later what G. Terry does and she started laughing hysterically and said "He goes to an office with lots of toilets and he cleans out all the poop!! Ahahahahahaha!!" My children find bodily functions way too funny. I guess that is probably my fault. I sometimes have a very juvenile sense of humor.
I signed all three girls up for swimming lessons. They start next week, Tuesday through Friday mornings, a half hour, for two weeks. It may have been a mistake for Luci though. She is suddenly and inexplicably freaked about water. I don't know what happened, she used to paddle around happily in her life-jacket in the deeper pools at Sea World, but the last two times we went she didn't even want in the water and when I coaxed her in she almost choked me to death with her strangle hold around my neck and whimpered and cried. Weird. It is so strange how kids develop fears all of a sudden like that, like their little minds just suddenly realize there is something to be afraid of. I think Mari and Zoe will have fun. Zoe may be timid about it, but she loves the water and wants to learn to swim. She just doesn't really like having water in her eyes. Mari, however, is fearless about water lately. She is leaping off the side of pools and swimming all over the place in her life-jacket. She loves to go under water. We'll see how she does without it the jacket.
