We have our house blessing tonight. For the non-Orthodox Christians on my list, that means the priest is coming to our house to pray and sprinkle the whole house with holy water. Good time to really clean the house too. House blessings are a tradition this time of year, right after Theophany (the Feast of Christ's Baptism). I'm nervous about it. Despite being Orthodox for six years now, we've only had a house blessing...ummm...two other times? We just are never in the right place at the right time. We move too much. And different priests all do it a little differently, so I'm not really sure what to expect. Will we all have to sing? None of us know the hymns very well. It is going to be awkward, no way around that, I think.
ETA: Priest just called and canceled because his wife was in a car accident. No one was hurt, but she is really shaken up and he had to go to pick her and the kids up. Weird part? Brad does this all the time, and I find it creepy. He said, less than an hour ago, "I don't know why we are doing all this work to get the house ready. The priest is going to call and cancel. I just have a feeling about it." He gets these "feelings" all the time and they are almost always right. It is so creepy. Oh well, my house is clean now. I'm glad the priest's family is okay! *end edit*

Mari wrote a little story for school today. It was so cute. For some reason the last line struck me as hysterical. The assignment was to write a story about a bird that goes in and out of a window (weird, but it went along with the lesson). Here is the story:

There was a little bird who went in a window. Then the bird went out the window to feed his babies. His babies were not there because they fell out of the nest. He flew back in the house and he found his babies. The owner put them in a cage so they could not go out. Then the little kid unlocked the cage because the bird talked to him. He speaks bird.

I had to laugh at the line "He speaks bird." Don't know why, it just hit my funny bone. She is always so pleased to make me laugh, though I think she was a little confused since this was a very serious story to her. Heh.

I'm tired. Lots of housecleaning today.
