Dec. 27th, 2007 09:43 pmAnd so it begins....
When we moved to Virginia a year and a half ago, my girls were sick for four months straight. I looked back at my journal to confirm this. It is true. No exageration. Let's see how long it lasts this time. They are all coughing with sore throats and nasty sounding chest congestion. Luci is the worst, but at least we got through the croup phase this time without a trip to the ER. We probably should have gone, but I just kept doing the steam/cool air thing and used the inhaler they gave a us last time a couple of times, and we got through it, though it was really scary a few times. She, by the way, HATES the inhaler now and cries in these heartbreaking sobs when she sees it coming. It is horrible. I only used it when I thought we might be doing CPR and calling 911 if we didn't. She seems okay now, just has an incredibly congested chest. She hasn't had a fever in 24 hours, so I'm hoping we are just in for a few weeks of a nasty cough. We'll see. The other girls just have the typical cold/flu symptoms. Maria's cough might drive ME crazy, as she does the irritated constant little coughing thing, but it doesn't seem to be slowing her down much. Zoe has run a fever a few times, her weird on and off fever thing that I've never understood. But she seems okay other than a little congestion. I'm bone weary and I too have a sore throat and cough now.
Christmas was really good despite all of this craziness. The girls made out like rock stars, as usual, but it wasn't QUITE as obscene as last year. And they got some really good stuff, very little junk. Some of the highlights...at least for me...were:
gym/excersize mats from the ILs
a balance board from BIL and his wife
Maria's sewing machine from my mom
Zoe's metal detector from my mom
I think Luci's swing/hammock thing from us may be her highlight. It is put together and will be mounted in the ceiling of her room tomorrow and she has spent all day hiding in it while it was sitting on the floor. It is just perfect for her with its cave like look and feel.
The highlight of my gifts was, of course, the Bon Jovi tickets, but I also got some other great stuff. I got a cast iron enameled dutch oven, some glass storage pieces (to replace my tupperware and other plastic ware), and a Magic Bullet, all from MIL. My parents gave us a good size gift card for Home Depot which will be much fun to spend.
Brad seemed to like his sunglasses, fancy socks and mini censor with incense. I hope he can actually use them all in Iraq.
It is getting really close. He leaves for Ft. Riley on January 6th. I know, I know...we'll still see him on the weekends for a few months. At least some of the weekends, I doubt it will be every single one. But, for all intents and purposes, I will be a single parent in less than two weeks. I'm alternately scared and calmly resigned.
Tonight I think I will miss him too much to bear.
