I finally have internet. Sort of. Our computer isn't working with the new DSL connection for some reason, and as neither Brad nor I are all that computer savvy, we don't know what to do. So Brad's laptop is hooked up right now and he left it for me. Three weeks with no internet access has been very painful for me.
We're here. We are moved in. Most of the boxes are unpacked. Just a few left in the basement to go through and set up my little office area down here near the girls playroom. We love the house and the neighborhood. I think I could easily live here for a very long time.
We are planning a trip to the beach this weekend. Zoe has been promised. She developed an obsession with seashells while at my parents' house. My mother had several boxes full of shells from our childhood days in Florida. Zoe has inherited most of them. Neither of the other girls showed much interest but Zoe spent literally hours sorting and gazing at them. She now has a small shelf in her room covered with shell, along with all of her other "collections" of rocks, leaves, dried flowers, seeds, etc. All the treasures she discovers every time she goes out the door. I walk outside and find little piles of "special" rocks and arrangements of sticks and leaves all over the yard. Zoe says the rocks here in Virginia are much prettier than the ones in Texas or Kansas. She's right. It is a treasure hunt for me too. This child needs a garden.
Zoe and Luci have both been enrolled in preschool three days a week, two and a half hours in the afternoon. A lot seems to have changed in the last month of my life. I am still sort of in shock that I'm putting both of them in preschool. Today I will order Mari's Calvert K stuff. Hopefully the two hours of time I have exclusively with her will be good school time for us. And bonding time.
I like Virginia. I like the landscape, I like the people. I like the more urban feel (especially since we are definately in suburbia here and it doesn't really touch me unless I want it too). Still getting used to the traffic.
I haven't even attempted to catch up with anyone here. I will soon. I can't get into my yahoo mail for some reason, so if you've sent an e-mail in the last three weeks, I'm sorry it hasn't been answered. Now...off to order Calvert and do some research on dance and violin lessons for Mari...

Date: 2006-08-17 03:17 pm (UTC)Let me know if there's anything I can do? Dave, for example, is good with computers and could maybe help troubleshoot the net issues.
That Calvert K curriculum looks neat. I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it.

Date: 2006-08-20 09:28 pm (UTC)I may take you up on the help with the computer. Brad just doesn't have time right now and I'm so clueless. We are still okay with the laptop, but I'd like to have *my* computer back!

Date: 2006-08-17 03:23 pm (UTC)SO glad you're doing well. I hope you update even more soon, but I'll be patient :) Your plan of putting two in preschool and spending time with Mari sounds so nice for everyone all around.
This never occured to me before - I'm moving to North Carolina, and apparently (my non-West Coast geography is terrible) it's only a few (maybe 4-5?) hour drive to DC. Chris has talked about driving me up there to see it. It would be SO COOL to actually meet you!
I'm so glad you're there :)
