Zoe, right before lunch: Is today a meat eating day?
Me: Actually, no. We will eat meat next week for Thanksgiving day. But then we will try not to eat meat again until Christmas.
Zoe, eyes very wide: How long is that?
Me: About a month.
Zoe: How long is that? Why?
Me: I'll show you on the calendar. We are trying to prepare our minds and hearts and bodies for Jesus to be born.
Zoe: Oh.
Pause
Zoe: We are getting ready for Christmas? Jesus birthday?
Me: Yeah.
Zoe:Let's listen to some Christmas music!!!

Whew! That went a lot better than I thought at the beginning of the conversation. Zoe is my carnivore. She would live on chicken nuggets and hamburgers if we'd let her.
