Kind of interesting. Just so you know, every political quiz I've ever taken has put me right smack dab in the middle on a Republican/Democrat scale. Sometimes slightly leaning to one or the other, but it happens to be Democrat as often as Republican. Usually those quizes that take the "right to life" issues (abortion, death penalty, euthanasia) or "green" issues into consideration have me leaning more one way or the other depending on what issue they weight more. So...I am a "conservative" in many ways (religious, nuclear family, traditional gender roles in my household though I don't have a problem with untraditional ones), but as far as American politics go I don't always fall on the "conservative" side of those. Just pointing that out so none of my more left leaning friends think I'm pointing fingers at Democrats by posting this. I just found the issues interesting.

Perhaps you're a "crunchy" conservative. Ron Dreher has a column of Beliefnet that you might find interesting (and he just announced his conversion to Orthodoxy!)

Oh yes. I'm a "crunchy" conservative. Have been for a long time and known it. However, I find the utopian outlook and "good ole days" wistfulness of some "crunchy" conservatives a little over the top. I really have no desire to homestead or own a farm and grow all my own food, make my own clothes, or live in a dugout. I just have a thing for "sustainable" lifestyles and energy sources and want to support them. I have a "green" outlook on things. I also am into eating whole foods and supporting organics whenever possible. I like supporing small businesses over huge corporations, but that is just because I think you get better quality that way, not because I think large corporations are "the source of all evil". So...I fall in the middle even with "crunchies".

I fall in the middle too because I am a moral conservative, but social moderate.

My grandmother who is a die-hard conservative would say that they are more generous because they don't believe that charity is the governments responsibility. I have known a lot of really stingy conservatives though so I don't know.
