I just called my MIL and she told me that one of their dogs, Jake, who has been sick for some time, will be leaving them today. They are going to put him to sleep this afternoon. It is very sad. I can't believe I'm crying over someone elses' dog. What am I going to be like when we lose Jesse? It hurts just thinking about it. I'm not sure how to tell the girls that Jake won't be there when we go home for Christmas. It is going to upset Zoe, at least, a lot I'm afraid. She loves EVERYONE'S animals so much. Brad's parents got Jake and his sister Mandy just few months before we got Jesse, so they all are about 10 years old and played together as puppies whenever we went "home" for vacations, until Jesse got weird about it and tried to fight with Jake, who could have eaten her in one gulp. Jake is this huge, lab/Rhodesian Ridgback mix. He is jet black and built like a horse. He is a gentle giant, the proverbial giant lap dog. He would have crawled into your lap if you let him and crushed you. He hid from thunder and lightening, but his bark could be heard around the block, so he was a "preventive" kind of watchdog. Brad's entire family adore him. My girls adore him. He is a great dog. He'll be greatly missed.

Good-bye, Jakey.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hey... it makes *me* sad, and I've never even seen the dog, so I totally understand you crying over it. Saying goodbye to our animals is always so hard.
