Mari is reading so well. It just makes me happy. I've taught the girls several Christmas carols recently and Mari likes me to write the words down for her. She learns them very, very quickly that way. She walks around the house carrying the paper with the words on it and singing. When she forgets the words, I've seen her stop and partially sound something out to remind herself. It is really cute. This kid is obviously a visual learner, though she also learns really well with hands on or movement based stuff (what is that called? kinesthetic?) We are flying through the Calvert stuff and while the reading/phonics is a review, now that they are talking about punctuation and some sentence structure stuff it is a little more challenging. The math is still offering very little challenge. But it certainly boosts her self-esteem for the assignments to be so easy for her. I'm having fun and supplementing quite a bit too. We do a lot of reading on our own.
Today was a busy day. The morning flew by with laundry and meal prep and then getting Zoe and Luci off to school and then doing "school" with Mari. After we picked the girls up we went for a VERY long walk down the nature trail near our house. It was actually a little creepy to be back in the forest alone with the girls. Something about all those bare tree branches and crunching leaves and winter silence. It was wet from rain this morning and a little dreary too. I was pulling the wagon in case Luci got tired (good thing too!) or I would have brought the dog with us. I wish I had. I was really wishing she was with us while I was having "Blair Witch" moments. And I haven't even seen that movie! Anyway, after the walk, I took Mari to her dance lesson and it was the first "open house" they've had where we could go in and actually watch the kids dance. Unfortunately, Mari was totally worn out from her walk and was a complete space cadet. She stared off in the opposite direction of the teacher the whole time, virtually never smiled, and would join in about half way through every excercise. Too bad this is what we know have on video for posterity. I'm really pretty sure she isn't always like that. After dance, she just seemed totally wiped out, which is really unusual.
After dinner, we took the girls for a drive around the huge neighborhood we live in to see Christmas lights. They really loved it. And it was fun for Brad and I too. We used to do that before kids came along. We haven't done that since the arrival of kids, because Luci always hated the car so much. But she was as into as the other girls this year. Then we came home and put the girlies in bed.
Now I'm bored...what's up with that? I should go to sleep, but I don't feel sleepy.
