I have an enormous amount to accomplish today. So, of course, I'm on the computer. I'm in "overwhelmed" mode. My mother is coming to visit me on Friday. She hasn't been to my home in a long time. We just tend to go visit them. It is very hard for her to travel because she works full-time, she has a sixteen year old to supervise, and my grandmother who lives with them is in poor health a lot of the time. This happened because there are some super cheap flights between KC and DC, Grandma is coming with her, and the kid IS sixteen now and can drive himself where he needs to go! Yay! I'm excited, but wanting to have the house super nice for her. Something about wanting her to see that she did a good job raising me...
The girls are watching two different TVs. Luci has a Dora DVD going in the sunroom (our main living area) and Mari has a Veggietails DVD going in the basement. Two TVs, to a person is isn't fond of TV in the first place, seems totally excessive, but I've been grateful for it several times as the girls have become more and more opinionated about what they will watch. I married a man who loves TV/Movies!
Mari is outgrowing preschool television. :( I'm not sure what she will watch now. I'm soooo ridiculously careful about what and the amount of TV my kids watch. I do have some good slightly "older" videos (Like the ones you sent us erikaerin!). There is just no good TV station for her really. PBS kids and Noggin are the only channels my girls are allowed to watch at all. PBS kids has some older kids stuff, but it is not on at the right times for us. I'd love for her to start watching Between the Lions again, but I always forget when it is on. I should DVR it or something. We have lots of no TV days, but on the days when I will let them watch TV, I like to have something decent for them to watch, not just mindless dribble.
I'm volunteering in Luci's class again today. Maria is coming with me. She is very excited though she keeps reminding me that we have to do her school too! I love that kid. She keeps me on my toes and refuses to let me be lazy. God knew I needed her. Homeschooling her has often felt like an answer to the prayer "should I homeschool or not?" She is so EASY to teach and she loves it so much. She just LOVES learning. And is so proud of her accomplishments. I wish I could figure out how to get Zoe more into things like learning to read. Mari was starting to sound out simple words by Zoe's age..."cat" "bat", etc. Zoe doesn't even know all the letter sounds yet. She just isn't interested. *sigh* My classical educater need to get my children reading is being thwarted! I know intellectually that she will learn when she is ready, if I've given her all the right opportinities and some kids learn to read at four and some at seven, so I shouldn't feel like she is "behind" because she is just five and showing few signs of being on the verge of reading. I keep reminding myself of that. I know my urgency is purely pride. I want my kids to be above grade level on everything so the homeschooling nay-sayers have nothing to say nay too. I need to get over that.
This has taken me several hours to write. I keep stopping to work, which is good. I've unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, folded two loads of laundry, washed one and put it in the dryer and stared another load, dressed and fed my girls, packed snacks for preschool, helped Zoe sign some Valentine's day cards for her class, and dones several other things I can't remember now. Yet, I'M still in my PJs!
