Vacation post one: The Lake

There are so many pictures I want to post, I decided to do it in a couple of posts, just in case anyone actually looks at the pictures. I don't want one of my precious flist who happens to use dial up to have their computer crash because of me!
So, we spend the first week of our vacation at the Lake of the Ozarks. Brad's parents have a nice little house there and lots of boats and other toys you need at the lake. It is always much fun.
Zoe kissing a fish. This has become a tradition. I don't understand it really, but when she was two and we were at the lake, Grandpa Terry thought her fascination with the fish he was catching was funny, and to see how close she'd get he told her to kiss one. She didn't even hesitate. Now she has to do the trick every year. This is Uncle Kirk, Brad's brother, holding the fish. It went back in the water after the kiss.

Maria and Luci "toobing" behind the boat.

Uncle Kirk took all three of the girls wake surfing. It is really very cool. Don't know if you've ever seen anyone do it, so I'll 'splain. You "surf" on a small surf board on the huge wake behind a wake boarding boat. You only need a rope to pull you up, then you can let it go slack or even throw it back in the boat, since you are so close. You can see in the last one with Luci, there is no rope in the picture. It is fun to watch and apparently fun to do. The girls loved it.

Flying leaps off the dock. It was hot. Boiling hot. We spent a lot of time in the water.

My girls are performers. Here they are giving a lovely rendition of "The More We Get Together".

A boat ride. Yes, that is me. I'm swallowing all pride and posting it. Again...it was hot.

Date: 2007-09-01 06:09 am (UTC)All of this looks so fun and great. Growing up in Florida there is this very familiar rightness about water and sand and bathingsuits and boats and heat and just generally being outside all day long and all the kids sleeping the whole way back in the backseat of the car.
Just seeing it makes me think we need to do something like that REALLY SOON.
The picture of you made me laugh, not because you look at all bad but because you have to preface it with a disclaimer and you're sitting there making such a "Fine...I'll suffer through it...are you happy now?" look about you :p
Aaron and Ananda loved these. They really want to go toobing now. Aaron was very relieved that the fish was let go.

Date: 2007-09-01 07:00 pm (UTC)I only spent four years of my childhood in FL, but I think because they were such formative, middle childhood years (6-10 yrs) that I just think of childhood the same way. Heat, humidity, living in bathing suits and boats, etc. Everytime we go to the lake I think about that and wish I could give my kids more time like that instead of just a week at the lake every summer.
Maria and Zoe are going to write to A and A. I promise. It is on the agenda for this week during "school".
