I need some help planning Zoe's 6th birthday party.

She doesn't want a theme really (which I heartily approve of), what she seems to want is just a traditional party, but with "lots of sparkly stuff".  Here are her words.

"I want us all to sit around the table here and eat cake.  And I want the presents to be over there in the hearth room by the fireplace.  I want lots and lots of balloons and sparkly stuff.  And red flowers from daddy."

So....sparkly stuff.  This sparkly concept keeps repeating.  I need ideas.  Jewels, treasure, all of these things appeal to her.  And she has been somewhat obsessed with skulls lately, so I suggested a girly pirate theme.  She did not approve.  She just want sparkle.  I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas for games and such.  Perhaps some kind of treasure hunt?  She liked the idea from the girly pirate theme of decorating their own treasure chests/jewelry boxes.  Any other game or craft ideas?

Right now, I'm just thinking we'll decorate with bold colors, metalics, glitter and glam.  Of course, the balloons and red flowers.  Everything that can sparkle will.  We'll just do some kind of sparkly craft, some kind of sparkly game....what about face painting?  If I could find some sparkly face paint?  Hmmmm....I just need more ideas to fill up two hours of time.  If there was a Libby Lu's around here, I'd just take her, her sisters and a few friends to get all glammed up, but there isn't one that I can find.  Ah well....

Help with any and all ideas!!

A couple years ago, it was really "in" to have the body sparkles and stuff.. Do they still sell that at Wal-Mart or whatever? And then there are the things that sound like ducks that have the metallic-looking streamers at the end... And if it will be all girls at the party, I suppose you could do like a princess glam-up thing (with the plastic jewelry and stuff) and perhaps do something with the photos. I'm not very creative myself... Oh, and then there is making pictures with glitter and glue (if you're not afraid of too big of a mess!)

Ah yes! Lovely noise makers! that is just what I need! :P

I think it will be all girls, but Zoe does NOT want a princess theme. She said she could be "the queen", but no princess stuff. Heh. She is so funny.

I'm not afraid of glitter and glue messes. I think that is a great idea!

Glitter gel (for hair or body, like [livejournal.com profile] linnapaw suggested? Do they still have that? Maybe Bath and Body Works...) Confetti? Confetti as a rule is just awesome, but a pain in the neck to clean up.

You might want to look in the Halloween stuff. It'll be on clearance after, but the selection might be good. I vaguely remember buying some sort of glittery pink hairspray for myself eons ago, and it DID wash out...

We got Hannah a red winter coat today, from the boys' section. I thought of you and Zoe. :)

Good idea about Halloween stuff on sale!

Zoe's red coat will still fit her this year. It is really too bad they don't make red girls coats. What is up with that? I don't mind the boys section, but it just seems weird, you know?

You know, she may just be picturing glittering party hats and plates and streamers. A banner with sparkling "Happy Birthday Zoe!" on it. Bright shiny wrapping paper.

We had a pirate party for Aaron, it was 4-5 hours long and the ONLY structured activities were opening gifts and singing/blowing out candles. We had "centers" though - all the blocks out in the living room, all the dress up clothes out in the bedroom, the trampoline available, snack trays set out the whole time, a board game on the back porch, swords/shields/other pirate stuff in the backyard...25 kids just kept themselves busy and seemed to have a blast. That's just an idea, and obviously girls this age are a little different than boys (though we had both).

I think that is exactly what she is picturing. When I showed her pictures of party supplies online everything metallic, glittery, etc, got an "Ooooo! Yeah! That is what I want!"

So I think you have the right idea. I might just set up random games and crafts that have a sparkly type theme going and let them have at it.

25 kids! Where did you come up with 25 kids! I'm having a hard time coming up with 10!

I just went back and looked, and it was actually 15 kids and about a dozen adults. I think what happened is I had actually invited 25 kids, but only 15 showed up.

Hmm. 8 were from 3 La Leche League families, 2 were Laura's sister in law's kids, 2 were neighbors we play with, and 3 were Robbie, Patrice and Nadia.

The 10 who didn't come were PATH families - we weren't as well established in PATH as we are now and I think it might have even conflicted with an event.

You know what's awesome, is that this local bookstore we have that recently opened (the one in my ditl) - it's owned by a homeschooling, former LLL leader, Christian mother of 5, and her kids are pretty much always at the store doing the day. So everytime we go there, my kids hang out with them, and they're getting to be good friends. The 8 year old girl asked for Ananda's phone number last time we were there. They seem really great.

Total aside. Please pray for me. I'm having a very hard time with chronic pain interferring with everything in my life, and an array of strange symptoms that are scaring Grant and I both. I will probably write about it soon, but for now I just don't feel like it.

Have you ever seen the plastic hair jewels with a little bit of velcro on the back, which you just scatter in the hair? She might like something like that, or body glitter, to go with a dress-up sort of activity.

A craft activity I've seen was simply decorating gold- or silver-painted cardboard picture frames with similarly metallic-painted macaroni and bowtie pasta.

What about a sparkly piƱata?

Good ideas! Thank you! I especially like the picture frame idea. I did something similar for my older daughter's birthday party. It was a lot of fun.

Glitter face/body-stuff was a huge hit at one of Zoe's friends parties. We're still finding glitter around the house. :)

Glitter glue pictures. (Zoe must go through a set of glitter glue every couple weeks. She loves the stuff.)

Get those "jewels" w/sticky backs and make your own party hats?

String sparkly beads on ribbons for necklaces or bracelets or hair doodads?

I'd be tempted to make those cookies w/life savers melted in them, but I expect on top of cake that'd be too much. But the stained glass effect is neat. *grin*

All great ideas! I LOVE the cookie idea. She might just like that better than a cake. We could call them jewel cookies or something. Thank you!!
