Books are so exciting. I just love books.
I got a whole set of old books from my Grandma the other day. She's going through a lot of her stuff stored in the basement of their house and getting rid of it. I took a set of children's classics that included things like the complete Grimm's and Anderson's Fairy Tales, the original Pinnochio, Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass, Little Women and Little Men, The Jungle Book and The Just So Stories, and several others I can't remember now. They smell musty and dusty and the pages are yellowed and just holding them and sniffing makes that flash of mystery and wonder come over me. Then there is the huge order of books from Amazon I bought with the pocket change. Heh. Can't wait for those. And then I spent my Borders gift card I got from MIL for Christmas today and ordered three more books. I'm going to be in heaven when these boxes arrive.
We spent the day mostly with my sister and her kids. We went to the gym and let the kids climb on the rock walls until I couldn't handle hooking them up to the auto-belays anymore. My hands got sore. Then we let them swim for an hour and half. I got to just sit and veg and make silly faces at my little niece for that one. We went to my sister's house for dinner afterwards and hung out with them. The kids put on a play for us about a wicked witch (my niece, Bennett), her cat (Luci), a princess (ZOE! ZOE WAS THE PRINCESS), and a magic headband. Maria was the "presenter", as they termed it. She presented all the actors and introduced the story. And gave a brief review afterward. My nephew Liam was upstairs all bummed during the play because he wouldn't eat his dinner, except some plain noodles, and so his mom wouldn't let him have dessert. :( He was so pathetic. That kid can break your heart with his huge brown eyes brimming with tears. I'm glad he's not MY responsibility to discipline. I'd never be able to say no to those eyes.
We came home and the girls watched Open Season (the movie) in the basement with me while I went through some baskets of toys and junk and generally began the huge organizational ordeal of getting ready to move. Again. We have about eight weeks. I have a lot to do. After the movie, they got ready for bed and I read them The Twelve Dancing Princesses from Grimm's Fairy Tales and started The Snow Queen from Anderson's Fairy Tales. The Snow Queen is one of my favorites. I'm savoring it as we read it. I don't however like The Twelve Dancing Princesses. It is a sad and very unfair story. Why can't the princesses dance all night? Why are the princes enchanted and not allowed to be with the princesses? I just don't get it. And the girls were disappointed in it too because it wasn't like the Barbie movie. *sigh* Barbie movies. While they aren't completely horrible, I've grown to hate them. The music is decent though. At least they find people who can sing.
I went through an LJ dry spell there for awhile. I guess it is over. I can't seem to stop babble-typing. Sorry about that.
