A curriculum post

I've been planning our curriculum for "next year". It should start in August or September...ish. Pretty flexible on that since things are pretty seamless in our schooling. We school year round, so it is hard to say when a new school year starts. I think we'll do that same thing we did last year and have a little graduation ceremony so the girls know what "grade" they are in and can answer that question when asked. Heh.
Here's what it is looking like....
History- We've been using A Child's History of the World by Hillyer as our spine for some time now and I have a great reading list based on it (http://www.donnayoung.org/history/chotw-p.htm), so we are doing a notebook timeline (http://www.homeschoolinthewoods.com/HTTA/RecordofTime.htm) and some activities based on the Usborne book, Living Long Ago which is on that reading list. It is pretty fun and simple. Read. Do activities as they come up. We should be staring modern history by next September.
Geography - Since we should be doing early modern history by next September, I also hope to start the North American geography unit by Beautiful Feet based on the Holling C. Hollings books (http://www.bfbooks.com/s.nl/it.A/id.283/.f?sc=2&category=2).
Science - Elementary Apologia again, probably Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day and Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day.
Literature - My goal is to read the Oz books for fun. But this is a flexible subject. We read what we want to read. Some other historical fiction classics are included in our history reading.
Language - Everyone will continue with Rosetta Stone Spanish (Luci will be starting it) and I plan to start Song School Greek (It is FINALLY OUT!!!) with them too.
Music-Continue to listen to Classical Kids
Art- Continue with Artistic Pursuits.
Math- Everyone will continue with Singapore at whatever level they are currently. Kumon as drill and supplement.
Reading - Continue with Pathway readers and workbooks. I really like these. Even Luci has gotten into them. Well, the readers anyway, none of them particularly like the workbooks, but I think they teach so much, I just can't let them go. Reading comprehension practice, phonics, vocabulary, dictionary and research skills, etc. This will probably be Maria's last year with them though. We'll see.
Grammar - Still trying to decide on this one. Do I want to continue with First Language Lessons (they go up to level 4 now) or just incorporate them with our spelling. Wise Guide (SWR) lists are what we are doing for spelling right now, and there is a grammar supplement for that. I already own it. So...don't know. We'll see.
Typing - Maria starting typing about a month ago with Dance Mat Typing online. I plan to continue that and start Zoe on it next year at some point.
Copywork and Journaling - Maria has transitioned to using cursive for the most part, we'll continue to to do Paidea Classics copywork for that, Zoe will transition to cursive and Luci will keep on keepin' on, I guess. They already keep do daily journaling and I plan to continue that.
So....there ya go! Our plans. Of course, they will all play a sport or continue with swimming lessons and they will all continue with piano lessons. We'll see about choir. Zoe loves it...the other two girls are wishy washy about it.
