You guys are probably going to get tired of my blow by blows about the kittens, but I'm fascinated. We brought two kittens home yesterday, the ones I posted pics of day before yesterday. These guys are, in my opinion, too young to leave mom, but they were both the last of their litters and I almost didn't get them. Apparently kittens are seriously hard to come by, at least here in Colorado. Even some of the slightly older cats at shelters I called about went before I could get hold of anyone. For all the talk to the contrary, I think maybe the spay/neuter campaigns are working. Heh. I'm sure I could buy a kitten for a ridiculous amount of money, but I was going for the rescue type thing.

I really wanted the girls to have the kitten experience although as I got more frustrated finding kittens, I started looking for cats younger than six months. Anyway, now we have these eight week old kittens and I'm determined to make up for the fact that they lost mama and siblings way too early. They are shut in a bathroom for safe keeping now, as I discovered last night that tiny kittens are easy to lose. And with the two dogs in the house that are not used to the kittens I am not okay with "losing" them. The girls spent the night with Brad last night, so the kitties got a chance to explore without being startled and running for their kennel every few minutes. I settled down to watch Pride and Prejudice (BBC, Colin Firth version) and protect my toes from kitten bites. They discovered within moments that they could climb the side of couch and pounce on my head which became a favorite game. The little boy is smaller and more skittish, but he doesn't like to be left alone at all. He was crying within seconds whenever I left the room. They didn't like being shut in the bathroom either. I hope they grow fast so I can feel a little more confident of their being safe in the house.

I did a bunch of research about the best foods for cats and settled on high quality, grain free canned food (I feed the dogs grain free dry food), but that means I can't leave them for long as they need to eat four or five times a day. Geez...I have babies again. *sigh* Good thing they grow really, really fast.

What grain free dog food did you use? Did you have to feed the dog a bunch too?
