Zoe and Maria are currently wearing the same size. Zoe is taller, but thinner. Maria fills out shirts more and will probably need a bigger size on top before the next season is over, but for the moment they are in the same 6/6x size. Zoe leaning more toward the 5/6 and Maria more toward the 6/6x. So...I need to go shopping. The weather is supposed to warm up again this week and Mari's pathetic spring/summer wardrobe from last year, some which still fits, most of which didn't last the summer because I made the mistake of going cheap, isn't going to cut it for both of them. And spring stuff, capris, bermudas,t-shirts and dresses with short sleeves, is going out to make room for summer stuff in the stores. I don't buy summer stuff. Sleaveless, halters, spaghetti straps, short-shorts. Lots of backless stuff for girls this year. It is just...there isn't enough there. So I need to catch the spring sales before I can't find anymore appropriate clothing, which is what happened to me last year. I had to wait for fall stuff to come out to add to Mari's summer wardrobe last year. Why do they think little girls need to look like Bratz dolls in the summer? Even Gymborees shorts are so short this year I can't even imagine how it could be comfortable! And my girls play so hard in warm weather! Riding bikes, digging holes in the backyard, climbing trees, sliding and swinging. How can you do those things with no skin protection! Anyway, I must go shopping. I think I'll go while Zoe and Luci are at preschool. Mari will enjoy that. I'll let her pick out a few things. Then I'll need to take Zoe at some point too. I like shopping, but it is becoming more of a burden as the girls are developing their own tastes. Mari will still pretty much wear whatever I suggest, but she does have favorite outfits. Zoe will categorically refuse to wear anything slightly uncomfortable. She has the cutest pants from gymoboree with little dogs embroidered all over them. She won't wear them, ever, because she can feel the little dogs. I don't really blame her, but I've noticed that a lot of the "sylish" girls clothes out there are not made with an eye to comfort but an eye to...looking like 20-something street walkers actually. Ugh. Even Target, which is often a haven for me, is pretty bad this year. The summer stuff coming out is just...how can they charge anything for so little fabric?
Enough ranting. I'm going to go do my hair so we can shop...

Date: 2007-03-19 04:35 pm (UTC)My daughter has turned her nose up at all sorts of clothes because of how they feel. I can't really argue with her since I'm exactly the same way, but it is frustrating. These are pre-washed, pre-worn-in clothes! They can't feel that itchy/scratchy/uncomfortable! Ah, but they can. *sigh*
I don't know who thinks 4 yr olds need to be wearing belly shirts. Or sexy dresses. *sigh*

Date: 2007-03-20 01:46 am (UTC)My Hannah wears a lot of capris, and a lot of dresses in the summer. I cannot STAND those short-shorts. When I got her some denim shorts last year, I got them in the boys' section. They're a lot longer.
Thanks for mentioning it, though. :) Hannah's going to need some size 4 t-shirts, and I don't have an awful lot of them. Better get them before it's all summer. Good grief with the stores and their seasons.
Oh! I made that soup for dinner last night. I halved the recipe and so didn't have an awful lot left over. I was so excited, thinking about coming home and having it for lunch, but Dave took the leftovers to work! I was so bummed! Guess I'll just have to make more.

Date: 2007-03-20 01:53 am (UTC)I did take Mari shopping and found some great stuff at a store I'd never been in before. It was called H&M and they have an outlet here. It is a UK based store, so the stuff was different than what you usually see in Gymboree and Children's Place. Really cute and stylish, but not overboard. What is with the layered look though? I mean really! A lot of it looks like a lot of work! How many pieces do you need to make an outfit these days! A long sleeve t-shirt, short sleaved t-shirt over the top, leggings and a skirt! Yikes! Too much work for me. I'll stick with the simple pants/shirt, skirt/top, dress looks. I can't keep track of all those pieces!

Date: 2007-03-20 01:57 am (UTC)I will admit, I like a dress over leggings or pants, particularly when it's chilly, but layers really can go overboard. Naartjie (a brand I love, but it's spendy) will frequently have pictures of their older-girl models (9 years old tops) wearing one DRESS over another. That's just silly.
