I'm going to see Harry Potter tonight! Yay!

I'm going all alone. *sigh*

It will be weird to go to movie alone. I haven't done that in several years. Come to think of it, the last time was the last HP movie. I am totally alone in my HP obsession in this house. I can't wait to share the books with the girls. They were intense for me though, so I'm waiting a few years and hoping to use them as incentive to get THEM to read...hah! It certainly worked for a lot of other young people out there!

at least you have the guts to go solo. I believe it is a sign of self confidence.

Practicality. If I don't go alone, I don't go at all.

Grant went and saw it alone last night, since I had taken A and A the night before. He thought it was really good, though he was not as blown away as I was. One person on my friends' list left it a SCATHING, horrible review - I mean really ripped it to shreds over the course of more than 50 separate points! I think seeing it with my kids influenced my perceptions somewhat.

I did some soul searching before I took them to this one, knowing how "dark" it is. The Prisoner of Azkaban really scared the heck out of Ananda - dementors and mostly the werewolf scene - but they were fine with Goblet of Fire. We talk about them A LOT as they're on, as well as preparing for them beforehand and rehashing together afterwards. I think I did the right thing, though, now that it's done - both of their favorite parts, which have been brought up often, are scenes where the kids are being brave and fighting back the dark forces. There's something about seeing kids they care about in these terrifying situations that are scaring THEM just watching, turn around and fight them off themselves, with light and magic, that just makes them involuntarily yell "YEAH!!" and almost jump out of their seats right there in the theater.

I'm not sure if we'll read any more books after #2 for awhile, though, or not. We have so many other books in line anyway, I'm sure I can stall HP3 for at least a year or more just by putting in at the end of the list.

It's kind of weird actually, there's certainly nothing else PG-13 they've ever seen. But I know there will not be gun fights, street drugs or sexual references in HP. Also, they don't teach a certain kind of sarcastic, cynical hooey that I really try to stay away from in my kids' entertainment, or desensitize kids in general to violence or hate...It's kind of funny to think how I won't allow childrens' commercial television or those horrible Disney/Nickelodeon shows in the house, but took them to OTP.

I want to know what you thought!

Honestly, I really, really liked it. I went in prepared to like it though, probably because I'd already read your post. Heh. I did have some "disappointments" but they were not enough to ruin the movie for me. I don't expect these movies to do justice to the books. That would be next to impossible without making them six hours or more long. I do really think this one was one of the better ones. Maybe even the best so far. Mostly because they really stayed true to the feeling and message of OTP and the acting was phonomenally better than ever.

Your kids (A and A) are a lot more mature than my kids(M and Z) in some ways. Emotionally anyway. Having met them and read about them in your journal for a long time now, I can say this with conviction. I used to read about the conversations you guys had and the books you were reading and think, "geez, I better get on the ball, we are so far behind" and then I realized how, well, out of the ordinary you are and Grant is and realized that your children are too. Don't get me wrong, my kids are bright, amazing people. I think all three of them have genius in them in different ways.

I hope you didn't think I was disapproving of your taking your kids to the movie. I'm sorry if it sounded that way. I think it is awesome you can share stuff like this with your kids!
