Brad says, "He's not presidential material." in that warning voice that means "You'll be throwing your vote away." I hate that. I hate it when he does that. I find a candidate I can actually AGREE with on more than one issue, and he thinks I can't vote for him because he can't win.
Our votes are more than just voting for the guy who wins.
I've never voted for a presidential candidate who had a hope of winning. I've never thrown my vote away. If nothing else, I hope the fact that my chosen candidates got votes informed the national discourse in some way, you know?
I am not a big fan of our existing "two party" system. Reforming such a system is difficult. However, this year Illinois made an important step in the primaries. I voted for the Green Party. They got enough votes to get them "major party" status in future elections, including matching governmental funds. That makes them much more likely to be able to get elected to major offices. Now, I don't necessarily agree with them, but with corruption rampant on both sides of the aisle here I felt it was the right way to vote.
I read up on and watched every single candidate, democrat and republican (and some others). I like Barack Obama actually. He seems more genuine to me than a lot of others (especially some of the other republicans!), but....I just disagree with the man on too many issues to vote for him.
Should we start heavy campaigning now? I've never done that in my life. I can't imagine doing it. But Ron Paul actually makes me feel hopeful, something no other candidate has done. And then I think, "there is no way he can win, what is the point." and then hate myself for being so practical.
He is a Congressman, ob/gyn, and libertarian running on the Republican ticket.
Check him out! I know you won't agree with him on most things, knowing you as I do, but he has some interesting things to say nonetheless. I checked out the democrats pretty thoroughly...come over to my side for a minute or two! He is the only Republican who voted against the Iraq war and has consistantly done so. He is consistant in all his voting.
